Broccoli

Broccoli has a slightly sweet, crisp and fresh flavour that's delicious in stir-fries, bakes and pastas or served on its own.

How to buy

Look for brightly-coloured broccoli, with tightly packed heads. The heads should be free of any yellow tinges.

How to store

Store broccoli in a plastic bag in the fridge for 3-4 days.

How to cook

For a Mediterranean pasta meal steam broccoli until tender, then combine with crushed garlic, red chilli, roasted pecan nuts, basil leaves, parmesan cheese and olive oil to form a paste. Toss through cooked pasta and serve.

With your next fish or chicken dish, try a side dish of steamed broccoli florets tossed together with lemon juice, lemon rind, diced red chilli and toasted almond flakes.

Add broccoli florets as a colourful ingredient to lasagne, quiches or frittatas before baking.

For a light dinner or quick side-dish, steam broccoli florets and drizzle with virgin olive oil and grated parmesan. Season with rock salt.

Goes well with

Lemon juice, almonds, parmesan cheese, fish, chicken and pasta dishes.
