Shepard Avocados

Shepard avocados are pear shaped with a shiny green skin. Perfect for salads, sandwiches and dips.

How to buy

A good avocado should feel heavy for its size with unblemished skin. Colour is not an indication of ripeness as Shepard avocados remain green when ripe.

How to store

Unripe avocados with soften if stored at room temperature for 3-6 days. Once ripe, they're best stored in the fridge and used within 2 days.

How to cook

Use Shepard avocados as a spread - they contain one-quarter the amount of fat as margarine and the fat it does contain is of the "good" kind (monounsaturated).

For a quick salad combine cooked beetroot wedges, avocado slices and mixed salad leaves. Drizzle with orange juice and olive oil and sprinkle with feta cheese crumbles and toasted pine nuts.
